Kahi and Lua Reading, Vestal Review Interview, and Bereket Writing Community

I know. I know. These titles are ridiculous. Oh well, here we go with this week’s stuff.

First, I did a short reading of two pieces from Kahi and Lua for Alien Buddha Press’ December playlist! I should have done more and planned better, but it’s what I did. I hope you enjoy it.

Next, my interview with Mandira Pattnaik went live on Vestal Review this week as part of Issue 61 - a lot of great writers are gracing its pages, so if you haven’t read it yet, I totally recommend you do!

I would also like to take this time to talk about a workshop I am part of called the Bereket Writing Community. I joined them during the summer and I have found a wonderful group of writers who I workshop with every month. Currently, they are looking for volunteers to help them so I am including the information below:

Bereket offers long-term writer’s workshops for creative writers of diverse backgrounds, particularly marginalized communities, and is looking to grow its programming portfolio to create more virtual events, a beta-reading initiative and other strategic initiatives to serve writers from different countries in an equity-oriented virtual space.

Their volunteer positions are listed here, along with an application form, and applications will be accepted until December 31st at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. These part-time, remote positions are a great opportunity for folks to gain experience learning about the writing and publishing world, connect with other writers who care about social justice and equity, and make an impact in the broader writing ecosystem.

If we think your application is a good fit, we will follow up with 1 to 2 interview calls, leading to a decision to be announced by the end of January.

If you have any questions about Bereket, please do not hesitate to contact us at community@bereketwriters.org.

Finally, the latest issue of Longleaf Review is out! It’s my second (actually third, if you include our Halloween lineup) as co-fiction editor and I am so excited by all of the work we have published! The Wayback Issue is filled with a range of micros to full length short stories (as well as cnf, poetry and hybrids), so I hope you check it out! There’s also a playlist!

It’s been a very long week everyone… I am struggling. I know some of you are struggling too. With the holidays approaching, I hope you all (and myself included) give yourselves space to relax or create or just be.

As always, sending light and live and creativity!

PS (because I spaced this): I got another nomination!! National Flash Flood nominated A girl for Best Small Fictions! Woohoo!!
