The Awesomeness of The Humble Bundle (or how I devoured almost 50 comics and graphic novels in a month)

I am not sure if you have ever heard of Humble Bundle, but it is an amazing way to give to charity and score some really great deals.

I recently purchased an Image Comics bundle that allowed me to read some of the amazing work being created there, among them, Matt Fraction's gender bending spin on The Odyssey called ODY-C, as well as his beautiful and I think funny, Sex Criminals, and the gorgeously drawn Casanova. Of course, there were so many more offerings that I basically consumed them all non-stop over a few weeks.

I find, as a writer, that graphic novels and comic books are wonderfully inspiring. After working on my own collaboration, "Tita" with my amazing friend, the very talented artist Sean Marmon, I realized just how much work goes into creating one.

I am the first to say that there are good ones and bad ones but that's not really important here...what is important is the ability to score so many books for so little. With Humble Bundle, they have some thresholds you have to pass to get some or all of their offerings. Usually, if you want them all, it's about $15 but you can always give more. I am not ashamed to say that I usually give about $20-$25. I know it's not a lot but it's what I am willing to spend. You can always give more especially if it's a charity you really care for...

As an aside, every year I participate in the Goodreads Reading Challenge. I usually set my goal for about 100 books a year. Now, I do include all of these yummy comics and graphic novels too, but I think that it is only fair that I do because they are books after all. At first, I felt guilty about it as if comics didn't rate as real books but after trying to create my own and actually reading and absorbing really good ones, I totally feel that they deserve their place on my yearly book list.

So I guess my rambling was just about getting a lot of books - because they are always selling book bundles - for cheap...I also recently picked up a specially curated Neil Gaiman book bundle (he actually put it together!!) that I will work my way through next. I am very excited about that!
