Every year we celebrate Pi Day with too many pies and so bad it's good sci-fi. It's a pretty awesome event.

From early in the morning until late at night, we all make different pies - from sweet pies to savory pies, traditional pies to hand pies, quiches to tarts. All of this while movies like Space Pirates, Barbarella, and Turbo Kid play in the background.

It's a great excuse to have friends over and to hang out and cook food all day. It's one of my favorite ways to enjoy a weekend.

I have made many pies over the last few years. One of my favorites was a strawberry pie. The other was a mud pie made with homemade no churn coffee ice cream. That pie was a fat sugar bomb that nearly took me out.

This year I will be making a banana cream pie because I have the strongest craving for it. I don't know if you realize it but pies (as Americans know them) are very hard to get here so any excuse to enjoy the  tastes of home is worth it.
