Book Blurbs, Book Illustrations and Tiered Rejections
In the last year, I have been very honored to be asked to blurb a few amazing writer’s books. (Girls Who Don’t Cry by Mandira Pattnaik, Love at the End of the World by Lindy Biller, and Histories of Memories by Shome Dasgupta - I have another one coming out for another writer I admire but I am not sure if I can mention it yet!)
I know how stressful it is to find people to read and write about your work so I was more than happy to help my fellow writers with this. I haven’t been paying attention to the blurb discourse but I have heard horror stories. I don’t ever want other people to feel like I am using them and I never want anyone to feel like they are imposing on me. I will always be honest. If I can do it, I will. If I can’t, I will say so. We all have to find balance in our lives.
I would also LOVE to mention that Amy Cipolla Barnes, who is so awesome, asked me to illustrate 2 of her stories in her latest collection from Belle Point Press - GET IT HERE!! - if you haven’t already! Looking forward to getting mine in the international mail soon!
Finally, I want to talk about tiered rejections - I know we all have different ideas about what this could be, for me, it’s always “submit again”… if they ask me, to do this, then I count it as a tiered rejection. I would like to say I receive more of these than your basic form rejection but I don’t. I try not to take it personally. I know what I write isn’t for everyone but I still try and send it out. Some day, some one will see my work and want to publish it - it’s all subjective, really.
And, that’s about it this week. Hope you all are enjoying me embarrassing myself on the ukulele for my 30-Day Elvis Ukulele Challenge! I should have a new song and video up tomorrow…hopefully. There are some difficult chord changes for my old fingers to do. As always, sending light, love and creativity!
