Reminding Myself It's Not a Race

I am genuinely happy when I see other writers succeed. It takes a lot for us to create and submit and publish our work.

I do have to admit that I also feel frustrated at myself when I don’t have a similar level of success and I spiral down into the why not me, why not my work, why am I not being recognized, published, agented?

It’s a nasty place to be. I don’t like it. I work hard to fight against it, but it lingers in the back of my brain. It weaves it’s spiky tendrils through my thoughts when I scroll through Twitter, invading my brain, making me feel shitty. I don’t want to feel shitty.

So, here I am being honest and telling myself (and anyone who needs to hear it) - THIS IS NOT A RACE!

This is not a competition. We all have our own path, our own way, our own pace. I don’t have to feel shitty. I don’t have to feel envious.

I will write and do my best. That’s all I can do, really.

As always, sending light and love and creativity.

And if you haven’t RSVP’d to Shorter Is Better Book Club - please do, and you can talk all things Kahi and Lua with us!
